Lists for PK through high school

Whole Child Record is an observation notebook for families, counselors, and teachers. It follows a student from pre-kindergarten through high school across six domains. You mark what you see, keep a journal, and get a rough picture of growth. It is not a test, a score, or a placement tool.

The six domains

These are the Whole Child domains in Learn. Cognitive includes literacy, math, science, social studies, and additional language. Hide items that do not apply to this student; add custom ones that do.

  • Social-Emotional

Feelings, relationships, belonging, and working with others.

  • Physical Development

Movement, body awareness, fine motor, fitness, and health.

  • Language

Listening, speaking, and communicating with different audiences.

  • Cognitive & Academic

Thinking, literacy, math, science, social studies, and additional languages.

  • Arts & Creativity

Visual art, music, movement, drama, and making original work.

  • Adaptive & Executive Function

Self-control, flexibility, goals, study habits, and navigating the day.

Foundational and expanded lists

Each domain has a foundational list and an expanded list so the same record can grow with the student through school. Completing the foundational set unlocks the expanded set. Neither list is a grade-level test. Use the one that matches what you are actually seeing, and skip the rest.

Where the topics come from

The checklists were compiled for this project from public research and from our Whole Child framework notes. They are a practical observation map for PK–high school — not a publisher’s instrument and not a copy of any scored assessment. The short definitions and examples beside each checkbox are original parent-and-teacher language written for this app.

  • Whole Child Development Framework (this project). The six domains and the foundational and expanded items you see in Learn, including cognitive subdomains and Adaptive & Executive Function.
  • Teaching Strategies. (2010). Research Foundation: Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment System.

These public PK–12 frameworks informed how the six domains are grouped. The checkboxes in Learn are this project’s observation language — not those instruments, and not a copy of their item banks.

  • Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). The CASEL 5 competencies (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making).
  • Academic content standards. Common Core State Standards for English language arts and mathematics; NGSS Lead States. (2013). Next Generation Science Standards; and the C3 Framework for social studies.
  • National Coalition for Core Arts Standards. (2014). National Core Arts Standards.
  • SHAPE America. National Physical Education Standards.
  • American School Counselor Association. ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success.

Uploading your own list does not store the original file. You certify that you have the right to use those items. Do not upload copyrighted tests you are not allowed to copy.

What this is not

  • Not a score. Analysis counts what you have marked as met. It is not a percentile, age-equivalent, grade equivalent, or cut-off.
  • Not a diagnosis or placement tool. It does not replace a pediatrician, psychologist, IEP team, or school evaluation, and it does not recommend grade, service, or placement.

Questions about a student who is struggling belong with a qualified professional. This app is a notebook, not a diagnosis.
